Lookout Mountain Trail -
The Lookout Mountain Trail provides access to the top of Lookout Mountain where a fire lookout tower once stood (taken down in 1982). There are nice views of the Little River and the North Umpqua river drainage. On a clear day, some distant peaks are visible as well. Wildflowers are abundant in June and July, and wildlife sightings are common.
Directions from Roseburg: Travel east on Highway 138 25 miles past the North Umpqua Ranger Station to the Apple Creek Campground. Turn right at the bridge and follow Forest Service Road 4714, which becomes 4714-300, to Forest Service Road 2703. Turn left, and follow 2703 to Forest Service Road 2703-800. Follow 2703-800 2.5 miles north to the trailhead, located on the east side of the clearcut unit, just before the road goes uphill into the timber.
Normally Accessible: Summer through Fall.
